On February 18th, 2019, CNN reporter DJ Judd Twitter, [1] "Senator Kirsten Gillibrand heads to the bar at the Airliner in Iowa City to address the overflow crowd. A voter asks what part of the Green New Deal she supports. 'I support all of it,' she says." They followed the tweet by explaining that a woman interrupted Gillibrand's speech by cutting across the bar. The woman said, "Sorry, I'm just trying to get some ranch dressing."
Judd posted a video of the moment. The post received more than 2,200 retweets, 8,000 likes and 919,000 views in two days (shown below).

Following the post, people online began posting about the interaction. The View host Maghan McCain tweeted,[2] "This 'just trying to get some ranch'
woman is a new folk hero to us all…" The tweet received more than 560 retweets and 4,900 likes in 24 hours (shown below, left). CBS reporter Kathryn Watson tweeted,[3] "'Sorry I'm just trying to get some ranch' woman for 2020." The tweet received more than 150 retweets and 930 likes in 24 hours (shown below, center).
Additionally, the hashtag #ranchlady2020 started trending (example tweet below, right).[4]
The following day, the Washington Post[5] interviewed the woman, Hanna Kinney. She described the interaction, "Being someone who is only 5-2, I can't really see over most people, so I was like, I'll just have to push through. I was just a girl on a mission to get some ranch for me and my friends[…]I came back with a squirt bottle-type thing and I raised it up and I went, 'I got my ranch.' And they were like, 'Yes, a queen, she got her ranch.'"
